New York Midwives Need Your Help

by

Please see this message from the NYS Association of Licensed Midwives:

We desperately need the 3 NYC senators who are on the Senate Higher Education Committee to sponsor our bill if we ever hope to get Senator Toby Ann Stavisky, the chair of the committee, to take any action on the “Midwifery Modernization Act,” bill number S5007. (Visit www.freeourmidwives.org for more information on the Midwifery Modernization Act). We need midwives, student midwives, and especially consumers to personally visit these senators in their district offices.

They are:

Shirley Huntley, 161-10 Jamaica Avenue, Suite 504, Jamaica, NY 11432. 718-523-3069. Her district covers S. Jamaica, Howard Beach, Kew Gardens, Forest Hills Gardens, Springfield Gardens, and Brookville.

Kevin Parker, 1300 Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11210. 718-629-6401. His district covers Prospect Park South, Ditmas Park, East Flatbush, Farragut, Rugby, Borough Park, Remsen Village

Jose Serrano, 157 East 104th Street, NY, NY 10029 212-828-5829. His district covers East Harlem, Morris Heights, Mount Eden, Highbridge, Mott Haven, Roosevelt Island

Their offices were all visited on Lobby Day in Albany, but you can often meet the Senator herself or himself when you meet them in their district office. If you live in one of these districts, PLEASE schedule a meeting! They are usually available on Thursday afternoons and all day Fridays. This legislative session will end in June; we need to continue the momentum that we started on Lobby Day.

Thanks,

the NYSALM Board of Directors
