Sexy Moms: Talking to your Kids About Sex

by

On Tuesday night at we gathered at Babeland on Bergen Street in Brooklyn to get advice, confidence, and wisdom from clinical sexologist Judith Steinhart on discussing sex with kids. Judith Steinhart is a certified sexuality educator and counselor with years of experience working with parents and young people alike. During our meeting, Judith structured her discussion around the following questions:

  • When do I start?
  • What do I say?
  • How do I respond to their questions?
  • What if they don’t ask questions?
  • What if they don’t listen?

For those of us who are new to this, Tuesday night was a great beginning! Both mothers of teenagers and mothers-to-be left Babeland with new tools for approaching the often anxiety ridden subject of kids and sexuality. We also shared success stories, asked for help, and bonded over red wine and baked goods. Mothers who attended also got a resource list of helpful books, websites, and magazines for discussing sex with kids. If you missed out but would like to know materials that we recommend you can send me an email at ariele@choicesinchildbirth.com. You can also get in touch with Judith, who is always available for advice, through her website: www.judithsteinhart.com.

Also, please feel free to use the comment section in this blog to post your own ideas for helpful resources on discussing sex with kids, keep the conversation going from Tuesday night, or pose more questions for Judith.

Hope to see all of you at another free event for moms sometime soon!
